I stand alone now, gazing at what I’ve done
The corpses of those that gave their trust
How foolish I was to expect something else
Chaos always finds its way
A reflection upon the events of my life
Was it all just for this cruel irony?
The beings I’ve slain, the souls my god drank
The treachery, deliberate or unpremeditated

I sought what was best, but it wasn’t enough
I had to then seek great knowledge
The ways of the world outside my own land
Perhaps more drab than what I’ve known
Along my journey, I’ve had varied company
Strangers from distant folds, lifelong allies,
Foes with unfathomable strength
I should have known the closest were the worst

I slaughtered my own, left them ones with the ash
I’m sure that that was meant to be
But where it has led me, I desire just as little
Despite the renown from my companions
Now they too lie lifeless on the earth
Snuffed out by the demon by my side
Even this close to relief, I cry
To follow me was to guarantee demise

The blade nears the end of its concerto
Only one note remains to be sung

It’s apt that this should be my end
Destiny decreed it long ago
It strung me along in this existence
Forever imbued in darkness
